Many owners only enjoy their boat for a few weeks a year. The rest of the time it waits at its berth or ashore, exposed to sun, salt, humidity and storms. Boat care and guardianship is the service that looks after it in the meantime, so it is ready and in good condition every time you arrive.
Why does an idle boat deteriorate?
A boat that is not used is not safe; its problems simply progress without anyone seeing them:
- Engines that are never started build up moisture and internal corrosion, and seals dry out.
- Batteries run down and lose capacity.
- A chafed line or a blocked bilge pump can turn into a leak after a storm.
- Mould and dirt settle into the interior and upholstery.
What a good guardianship service includes
- Regular visits to check mooring lines, fenders, covers and the bilge.
- Running and checking the engines and generator, watching temperatures, cooling and possible leaks.
- Batteries: checking charge levels and the shore charger.
- Airing and cleaning inside and out.
- Checks after storms, when they matter most.
- Condition reports on the boat, with an immediate call if we find any problem.
Arrive and go sailing
The big advantage of guardianship is peace of mind: you tell us when you are arriving and the boat is waiting for you clean, with charged batteries, checked tanks and tested engines. No surprises on the first day of your holiday.
Most of the breakdowns we see at the start of the season could have been avoided with a few check visits during the winter.
